Kitchen Knives Sets are a very important part of any kitchen. Not only are they highly functional (you use your knives more than anything else), but they can also add a touch of style and class and even beauty to your kitchen.
The problem is, there are dozens of popular brands each of which has dozens of different knife sets available. There are so many options that it can get awfully confusing if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for and that’s why I decided to write this guide today to focus on just three knife sets for under $100.
It’s easy to spend an arm and a leg for a good knife set. Heck, you can spend several hundred dollars on a single knife! But unless you are a very serious chef, chances are you won’t need such expensive cutlery; and if you are a serious chef then you don’t need this guide to tell you which knife to use!
Today I’ll be focusing on three different knife brands. These are:
- J.A. Henckels
- KitchenAid
- Wusthof
I have personally selected three sets from these brands to discuss, so why don’t I just dive right in and start talking about them right now!
J.A. Henckels International Fine Edge Synergy 17-Piece Knife Block Set this is a fantastic steal at only $90. Normally this set retails for over $200 but you can find it right now at this extraordinary price at Amazon. Like the name suggests there are 17 knives in this set including a paring knife, utility knife, boning knife, chef’s knife, carving knife, bread knife, hollow edge Santoku, sharpening steel, and eight steak knives. It also comes with its own storage block which is a great feature. The blades are hand honed and should last a very long time. The handles are rubberized plastic with a sort of brushed stainless steel that looks very nice. This is a fantastic deal really.
KitchenAid 14-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Block this is a nice little set that costs around $95. One thing you’ll notice right away is that it only contains 14 pieces as opposed to the 17 piece set I just discussed. I might not usually recommend KitchenAid as a knife producer but for this price you can hardly go wrong with these light and stable high carbon stainless steel durable razor sharp knives. Oh, and it also comes with its own block of course. This set contains an 8″ Chef, 8″ Slicer, 7″ Santoku, 5″ Serrated Utility, 3 1/2″ parer, Sharpening Steel, and black kitchen shear. One downside is that some people have suggested that these knives rust! So beware of that!!
Wusthof Gourmet 7-Piece Knife Set with Block at $99 this is the golden ticket of my review. Sure, it only comes with seven knives but Wusthof is a very high-quality company that many people really love. The set comes with an 8-inch cook’s, 8-inch bread, 6-inch sandwich, and 3-1/2-inch paring knives; sharpening steel; and kitchen shears. Oh, and of course, a block – but not just any old block this one comes with a solid oak block. Talk about class! Each knife is forged from one piece of specially tampered high carbon stainless steel. This should give these knives outstanding strength. The handles are synthetic and riveted to the full tang of the blade. This is a very nice set for the price even though it contains fewer knives than the other sets.
So there you have three very nice sets under $100 each that come with their own storage block to boot! If you don’t have many knives and are looking to flesh out your collection then I suggest you go with the J.A. Henckels set of 17 knives. If however you’re looking for a few quality pieces then I suggest the Wusthof seven piece set. Either of them are really great Kitchen Knives Sets that you are sure to get years of great use out of.
