One of the most popular brands of dish sets right now are home trends dinnerware. Why is that? Two reasons really; the first is because there are a ton of different options and some very stylish options at that, the second reason is because they are incredibly incredibly cheap across the board.
Home trends is the Wal-Mart brand of dinnerware and being a snob…and I am…my first instinct was to write these dishes off completely. I mean, do I really need to buy bowls and plates from Wal-Mart? The answer is yes!
It’s true you can spend hundreds of dollars elsewhere on high-priced fancy dishes, and if you need a set for a formal dinnerware party then you probably need to look somewhere else, but for everyday use for you and your family – you can’t go wrong with hometrends. Not only are there a ton of options and about a zillion different styles and patterns to choose from that are both modern and traditional, but you also have a huge selection of materials from stoneware on up to choose from. And these are definitely not low class pieces.
Watch out for…
There are a couple of things you need to watch out for. The first is that it’s often pretty difficult to find replacement pieces for different sets. For one thing, an entire set might only cost $30 so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to go out and track down a replacement piece when you can buy an entirely new set so cheaply and because of this Wal-Mart doesn’t really keep replacement pieces in stock. You can probably find some on eBay if you really track them down but chances are you’ll be out of luck.
The other thing to watch out for is health concerns. Several years ago the FDA issued a warning that some home trends dishes had an unusually high amount of leachable lead and I don’t remember Wal-Mart ever recalling them, though they might have. So you may want to run a search for your specific set on the Internet to see if there have been any FDA rulings.
But other than that, you really can’t go wrong with these dishes.
How well do they hold up?
These dishes hold up surprisingly well. They’re almost always dishwasher safe and microwave safe as well. Especially the stoneware dishes, they can really take a beating. At that price, I’m really amazed how well this dinnerware lasts. And if they break, you aren’t out that much money anyway!

Where do you find them?
The best place to find these dishes is at Wal-Mart. I recommend you search the Wal-Mart.com website before going to your local store because the store may not have as many in stock whereas the website can track down the entire selection that they offer and ship it to your particular store, or straight to your house whichever you prefer.
