Since 1908 Nikko dinnerware has been some of the most elegant and beautiful dinnerware on the planet, and for very good reason. They’re perhaps most popularly known for their christmastime collection of porcelain Christmas dishes, but they have a wide range of select dishes and sets to choose from that are worth your while.
Purchasing Nikko in quantity can be expensive, 5 piece place settings often start at around $50 but can easily escalate up to the $100 range or more. This doesn’t make them the most expensive dishes out there, but it does make them close!
Nikko Ceramics produces dishes made out of a number of different materials, including:
- Nikko Fine Bone China
- Nikko Fine China
- Porcelain
- Ironstone
So really whatever you’re looking for, you can select a material that suits your needs. While they do tend to specialize in sets, you can quite easily find an individual dinner plate, salad plate, or bowl to round out a collection.
Nikko Ceramics Christmastime 5-Piece Dinnerware Place Setting, Service for 1
This has been a popular Christmas set for some time and at $50 per setting you can see why. It comes with an octagon shaped dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, cup, and saucer and is crafted from Ironstone but has a very glossy ivory glaze and is decorated with a Victorian style Christmas tree. These pieces are safe for both the microwave and dishwasher though I would recommend washing them by hand.
Nikko Ceramics Moonstone 20-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4
While not as popular as the Christmas collection, the Moonstone collection is a close second. At $160 for the set, they’re fairly competitively priced. They come with four dinner plates, salad plates, bread and butter plates, and cups and saucers. The shale gray, slightly blue pattern around the outer edges is accentuated by the clear white interiors of the plates giving them a very elegant look. I give it a five out of 5 stars.
Nikko Ceramics Band of Platinum 20-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4
This is a great set that only costs $95, making it the definite cheap end for Nikko, though you can’t tell by looking at them. The set includes four dinner plates, salad plates, bread and butter plates, cups, and saucers that are highlighted with a very elegant looking platinum banding around the outer edges. The plates themselves are made of durable white fine China that you will definitely need to hand wash. I would label these as a formal set, they definitely look formal! Even though they’re formal, you can probably get away with using them on a daily everyday basis as well.
Nikko Dinnerware may not be the most well known dish company out there, but those who know about them sing their praises. Besides, they’ve been around for over a hundred years, and you learn to do a lot of things right in that amount of time! Check them out today.
