Last week I was visiting a friend upstate (we haven’t seen each other in almost three years!) and we decided to do some baking, but she didn’t have a sheet cake pan! I was absolutely amazed because I’ve never known anybody in my entire life who didn’t own one of these things. I mean, am I right or am I right?
Luckily my friend only lived a few minutes from a major shopping center so we jumped right in a car and fixed the problem right away!
The first thing I needed to decide was whether or not to give her a couple single cake pans or to go for an entire set. Normally I would’ve just grabbed a couple but she didn’t have any so I finally decided to focus on a set.
Unfortunately we couldn’t find any good sets so we had to make do with just buying a couple different cake sheets and winging it.
Before we left I did check online and found what I thought was a fantastic set called Fat Daddio’s Anodized Aluminum Sheet Cake Pans. They cost just $23. But then I actually looked a little bit deeper and come to find out, they weren’t a set at all! So it was back to the drawing board once again.
In the end we bought a Wilton Decorative Preferred 12-by-18 Sheet Cake Pan for $26. It has 2 inch high handcrafted straight sides and is made of pure aluminum which usually distributes heat fairly evenly. The pan itself is 12 x 18″ and 2 inches thick which is just about perfect for what we needed it for that day.
We also picked up an OvenStuff Non-Stick 16-Inch x 11-Inch Sheet Cake Pan for $10 because you never really know when you’re going to need a good 16 x 11″ sheet cake pan. It comes with that dark nonstick finish which makes it really easy to clean up afterwards and makes it scratch resistance so it will last longer. You can also toss it into the dishwasher if it will fit, which is a nice touch.
Finally, we also picked up a $14 Farberware 9 X 13 Cake Pan with Lid. This pan is supposed to be oven safe up to 500°F and has a nonstick coating and a quality assurance guarantee.
Well, my friend now has a good Sheet Cake Pan selection to work with, but I suspect that she won’t use them when I’m not around. Oh well, it was still fun to do all the shopping!
