From their beautiful design, the balance and handle of their blades, to the pure ease of use that they bring to every meal you prepare, shun knives are wonderful deals at any price.

Today I’d like to talk about several classic Shun Kershaw knives with you and give you an idea what you can expect from this line of knives and how much you can expect to pay, roughly speaking. I’m going to focus mainly on chef knives because I think that’s a pretty good example that most people will use predominantly in their kitchen, so let’s get started.

Shun Classic 10-Inch Chef’s Knife

Any discussion of Shun knives should really start out with the classic 10 inch chef. By far this is the one knife that you’re going to use the most, day in and day out if you do any serious cooking in your kitchen at all. At $140 you would be hard-pressed to find more knife at less price anywhere else. It is made of VG-10 high carbon stainless steel with a black laminated Pakka wood handle that has a D-shaped profile. Of course, all Shun knives come with a limited lifetime warranty and this one is no different in that regard.

Kershaw Shun classic knives, come in both left handed and right handed models so keep that in mind. You will know the difference between the two so be sure to purchase the appropriate handed knife. The handle just won’t sit well and the blade won’t feel like it is in balance otherwise.

Shun Classic 8-Inch Chef’s Knife

At $130 this 8 inch chef’s knife packs quite a punch. Like its 10 inch brother, it is made of VG 10 stainless steel but clad with 32 layers of high carbon stainless steel with a patterned and layered surface. It has that awesome look of Damascus steel, and is dishwasher safe though you should probably hand wash it any way.

Shun Classic 6-Inch Stainless-Steel Chef’s Knife

Finally we have this six-inch chef the costs just $77. It’s stainless steel blade is clad with 16 layers that gives it the same rust free Damascus look as its larger counterparts. At the same time, it has an offset steel bolster that adds to the safety of its use. This knife is especially suited for smaller users making it a great steal for the price. While not a santoku knife, this little chef can really get things done.

Shun Classic Knives are some of the most highly rated knives on the market today, in fact you would be hard pressed to find a more popular brand all around. Whether you spend most of your days cooking in the kitchen or are merely a hobbyist, you can’t go wrong with shun.
